It was the last time.

For 22 varsity football players, Oct. 31 was the last time they got to fight against another team on a different field.

The last time to fight in white. The last time to fight for the wildcat name in a different stadium.

“It’s bittersweet, knowing it’s the last time I’ll ever wear my white jersey. [I gave it] my best effort knowing I won’t get to do this anytime soon,” No. 6 Daniel Jones said.

No. 32 JT DeRouen felt the game would be a success.

“I felt great [about tonight’s game]. I’ll miss wearing our white away jerseys because we look so fresh in them,” DeRouen said.

Junior No. 43 Chris Hermansky said the last away game with seniors was sentimental.

“It kind of sucks. Even though it’s been a rough season, I’ve gotten really close with these guys. It’s going to be really different playing without [the seniors]. I’ll miss Ian Higgins and Daniel Jones the most. They are just the two I think I have grown the closest with over practices and team dinners,” Hermansky said.

With all the team back from injuries for the last away game, Jones was confident in the seniors drive to play hard.

“Our senior class has been through more adversity and has worked against a huge number of obstacles throughout our four years, and much of our success has come as individuals this season and maybe hasn’t reflected as much on the scoreboard. But it’s a great group and I’m truly going to miss it,” Jones said.
The team lost  55-7 to Cosumnes Oaks. The last home game of the season is Nov. 7, which will include the Senior Night ceremony.
