On Feb. 7, the dance team brought home several awards from the Bella Vista USA Dance Competition. The team won Second Place for the pom category.

“We qualified for the national competition in Los Angeles, but we aren’t going to compete in that one, so it’s just kind of an accomplishment for the team,” Kayla Daughters said.

Daughters brought home an individual award as well; she placed sixth out of almost 35 solos.

“It was such a great accomplishment because it’s something that all the dancers at the competition strive for, so to be picked to be in the top six soloists is an amazing feeling,” Daughters said.

The team also entered a trio. It included dance team members Malia Blume, Carly Windham and Roberta Romans. Out of the 10 schools in attendance, their routine “X-Small,” received a Third Place title.

“I was really proud of our whole team. Both X-Small and the pom routine qualified for Nationals,” Blume said.

However, the team won’t be attending this year’s national competition.

Daughters said, “We decided we didn’t want to do Nationals and instead we are doing a Disneyland Dance Workshop. It’s put on by the people that choreograph all the Disney plays and shows.”

The workshop, scheduled for the end of this month, will be the final event for the competition season.
