The varsity wrestling team traveled on Jan. 21 to Lindhurst for the Jason White Memorial Tournament. Wrestlers Cole Kachmar, Maverick Chadwick, Christian Cornes and Jacob Barquet each placed first in their weight class. Chadwick shared about his experience at the tournament.

Q: What weight class are you in, and how many people were in it?

A: I’m currently in the 128 weight class and 11 wrestlers are in my weight class.

Q: How did you prepare for this tournament?

A: I trained hard the week before. I’m usually in bed by 8:30 p.m. the night before tournaments so I’m totally rested, then the next morning I eat huge breakfast that consists of eggs, potatoes and meat. After I’m done eating, I warm up with my teammates and start preparing for my match.

Q: What did you do differently from the previous tournament?

A: I definitely felt I worked harder than my previous tournament I also stayed focus throug

Q: How did it feel to get First Place?

A: I placed first and got most outstanding for his weight class, it felt great because it was the first time getting first at at tournament

Q: What do you do to make your techniques better than others’?

A: I practice a lot with my teammates and I’m not afraid to learn new moves and try them.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face as a wrestler, and how do you conquer them?

A:  I usually wrestle kids that are more experienced and stronger than me, but overall I have upset a lot of kids this year. Having mental toughness is very hard to have, but through the years I have acquired a very strong mindset. I’m already in the winning mindset before I even step on the mat.

Q: What are your goals for the postseason?

A: I want to get first in league and divisionals, and place in the top six at Masters so that I can qualify for state.
