Chad Campbell buys a shirt from senior class officers Dominic Souto and Janah DeLany in the cafeteria Aug. 7.

With the new year kicking into gear, the senior class officers Janah DeLany, Dominic Souto and Sydney Schreiner decided to take initiative and start fundraising early. There goal was to insure that the Class of 2018 has a good budget for senior year.

From the beginning, students complained about the Vegas gold shirts. The senior class officers decided it was finally time for a change.

“We know that a large majority of our class doesn’t enjoy our class shirts that are gold, so we decided to make a new one. We choose charcoal grey since no other class has that color, and we are hoping people will enjoy and wear them more than the gold shirts,” DeLany said.

In addition to providing a new look for the senior class, the officers are taking advantage of it in order to begin fundraising for the year. During senior registration they sold the shirts for $10 and were able to sell 82 shirts.

“We just wanted to start off the year on a good note and start fundraising for senior ball and senior activities in order to have a great year,” DeLany said.

Students have been complaining for years and are excited to finally be getting what they want.

“I’m super pumped about the new shirts, since the ones we got freshman year weren’t really gold but more of a beige color, and nobody in our class wears or likes them. So in my opinion, the grey is so much better than the old shirts,” Meghan Townsley said.

While some believe this is a great idea and are very excited, others do not feel the same way and think it is a waste since it is the last year they will be at Whitney.

“I like the gold shirts better since that is actually our school color and it represents Whitney more. Plus it is our last year, so why spend money on a new shirt that is much more plain and doesn’t make us stand out as a class as much,” David Smirnoff said.

The shirts will be on sale the first week of school for $10 in the student store.
