Nothing makes a person in the new generation happier than a new game with quality graphics and a revamp to previous games. Well, actually because it’s the Slender Games it also worsens paranoia when making a restroom run in the middle of the night.

But in this case; “Carnival” will make you not look at any circus the same way again. Honestly clowns originally had instilled fear of the circus into the hearts of children, but looks like Slender has just amplified those terrors.

For those who have not yet experienced any of the Slender Games, they are simple games that are downloaded from Slendermansshadow.com.  The object of the game is simple; collect 8 items. Your character holds a camera which you can control the zoom, it can sprint for a short amount of time, and control a battery guzzling flashlight. While trying to find the items, you are being hunted by the “Slender Man”. By urban legend, he is a tall, white human-like creature dressed in a suit and tie, with unnatural long arms and legs, but he has no face. Also, he has tendrils coming out of his back which adds to the creepiness. After every item you collect, he becomes harder to get away from.

Originally, Parsec Productions made all of the Slender games, but a new package was released called “Slender Man’s Shadow” where all of the games have been revamped with a new engine and two new maps were released “Christmas Special” and “Carnival”. I highly recommend playing the remastered games, they are much more beautiful in a creepy, horrific way, but also hard as they changed Slender’s mechanics and item locations.

“Christmas Special” is a fun map where you collect presents instead of notes or something creepy and there is no Slender Man, but instead Santa Claus. It was sort of a late holiday special from the developers to players so there was not specific detail about this, but it did cause some laughs in light of being developed by the same people who designed the other chilling games.

“Carnival” however is a fun Slender Game but also difficult and scary as it is the first time they have multiple items to collect. There are 5 pieces of paper to find, a dress, a teddy bear and a tiny pair of shoes to collect. The shoes on the screen are smaller than a pinky nail which can cause the desire to punch the monitor when straining the eyes looking for them. The items are also spread decently, and locations of the items can change, so it adds to the difficulty. The new model for Slender Man gave goosebumps, for his appearance has impressively pleased players.. In previous games when your character looked at him he would stand dead still, but this one he actually moves slightly and there’s more detail added to him. His new model nailed the purpose of Slender Man being so scary in urban legend. He’s supposed to look like a well dressed gentleman but also a monster by his lack of human features. However, It was disappointing that his new model does not include the weird tendrils coming out of his back. Usually they are visible if the player gets too close to him. But overall he looks fabulous… in you know, an unnatural, demonic, psychopathic way.

Don’t play Slender Games if you have horrid paranoia at night: these games  in no way shape, or form will help. But they are fun to play and because it has simple player mechanics, which means it’s friendly to any type of gamer whether they are experienced or a new. It’s also the type of game you would dare a friend to play while videotaping their reaction. The “Slender Man’s Shadow” games package is available on the website, it costs 7 dollars to play and if you want to try one of the revamped games, “Sanatorium” is free as well as the new map “Christmas Special.”
