The beginning of the end with ‘Harry Potter … Part 1’

As the seventh movie in the ever popular Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” lives up to its standards.

The movie centers around Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione’s (Emma Watson) quest to find and destroy all the horcruxs Lord Voldemort (Ralph Finnes) has made. With their struggles along the way and teenage romances, this movie is everything a “Harry Potter” fan expects and more.

“Deathly Hallows” still has the same magical feel  we’ve all grown to love, but with a darker, more mature approach. While most of the movies take place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, this one follows our favorite three young wizards around to various forests and hiding places while they continue on their journey.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” grows with its viewers without losing itself and the aspects that made it so great. It is definitely not a movie for younger generations, but for the generation that grew up reading the books and really investing time in the characters.

Though the movie ends very abruptly with the gang escaping from Malfoy Manor, it is split into two parts with the second coming out this July, it all seems to make sense. It leaves you with a great “Harry Potter” fix while also on the edge of your seat wanting more.

Just like past “Potter” films, “Deathly Hallows”  does J.K. Rowlings’ writing justice. With just a few new movie aspects, like Harry and Hermione’s dance, readers of the beloved series will not be let down.

Overall, “Deathly Hallows” has the perfect blend of magic, friendship, love and action and it does not disappoint.

Running time: 150 minutes
Rating: 3 ½ stars
