With the recent opening of the Campus Oaks Skatepark in Roseville on 580 Roseville Parkway, students are finding a new place to spend their time after school. The skatepark has quickly become a hangout spot, giving students a space to skate, meet new people and enjoy time outdoors. 

Campus Oaks consists of a five-foot half pipe and pool coping extension in the back, a bump to bar on either side of the down rail, a manual pad and flat rail in the middle, and a bank on the other side, allowing for a good flow and endless possibilities. The park took approximately four months to complete with construction starting in January and concluded in May in preparation for its opening. 

Jake Nelson said the skatepark stands out compared to others in the area. 

“I have been to the new skatepark — I love it,” Nelson said. “It is almost like an L.A. kind of feel.” He explained that the park has become a hub for meeting new people.

“All around it’s just great because it brings a ton of people together, and I have made a lot of new friends there, more than anything and that’s what I value,” Nelson said. “The location is good because it is in a really nice area with a lot of shops nearby. It is also pretty close to Whitney and is the first nice skatepark we have had nearby.”

For Drew Clark, the skatepark has become a great place to go after a long day sitting inside. It’s the perfect place to be out in the sun and get in good exercise. 

“I think the new Campus Oaks skatepark is really cool, and it is really fun to go there after school. The skatepark is a great place for me to meet new people because they are also skateboarding, we already have something bringing us together,” Clark said.

“It is a really good place to go after school because it is getting exercise outside, and after being at school for so long it is very fun and relaxing to be able to go over there and hang out,” Clark said.

He added that the atmosphere is welcoming and safe. Being in a nice neighborhood with a lot of people he knows from school, and people he has met there.

“The location is really good because I know it is safe and everyone there is really nice, the surroundings are great,” Clark said.

The new skatepark has helped Liyana Burdette reconnect with skateboarding. She explained that having the park nearby has made a difference on how she spends her free time.

“I think the new skatepark is a very good place to get together and have a great time, I have met a lot of nice people and it is a cool place to learn new things,” Burdette said.

A new skatepark close to campus, is a perfect place for students to get outside, stay active, socialize, and spend more time outdoors rather than being stuck inside.

“It’s good for Whitney students, because people need to be out doing stuff,” Nelson said. “You could say that you’re happy, but it’s just a matter that you’re out doing stuff … It just really brings people together.”
