Dress code strikes others as a disgrace

With the days getting longer and the thermostat reading over 90 degrees, the dress code for high school has really pushed girls over the edge into wearing the shortest of shorts and and most cleavage showing shirts during school. From the day I set foot on campus I have not seen the school dress code enforced. Walking past girls I seem to feel insecure over my long capris in the heat when other girls have shorts with their butts showing.

Do not get me wrong, I love wearing shorts, but not shorts that have my butt showing or anything else. My parents tell me they do not want me to be “one of those girls at school,” so I have been taught not to wear shorts that are shorter than my fingertips when I put my arms down. This is aggravating, because of my naturally long arms I am not able to wear short shorts outside of school, which explains the capris tan line.

The school dress code seems like it has not been enforced yet. A girl once came to school wearing high waisted shorts, with her butt showing, wearing fishnet stockings underneath them and all of a sudden they became acceptable for school. It makes me wonder what it truly takes to get dress coded. It is very disappointing to go to school with bermuda shorts while all the other girls are wearing short shorts that are in style.

Whenever I walk out of the house the expectation is to not see any straps that are not tank tops with your shirt. Girls at school however think it is still okay to wear bro tanks when their bra straps are showing and everyone at school compliments their shirts. It’s cute and all, but not suitable for school. My motto is: “If you would not wear it to church, do not wear it to school.” The shirts are more suitable for a day at the beach, or maybe a day with your friends in the sun, but it is not suitable for school. You spend six hours of your day at school, and only have an hour of time outside during school. Why girls do not have the courtesy to have some self respect is beyond me. Why the school does not enforce the school dress code is beyond me. Girls in the first place should not be showing too much skin by wearing their shorts, and the school should start enforcing the dress code so no one would have a problem with the dress code.

The dress code does not get enforced regularly as it should which is annoying to have to watch the slums of high school girls saunter around during school. Girls show off their body by wearing the short shorts and their crop tops, but really, school is school, not some contest to show off the most skin.
