According to the New York Times, football has turned into a big conflict of the amount of hitting during practices which could lead to concussions. The Ivy College League is reducing the amount of hitting in the week. There’s collisions every minute, but why take it away during practices?

Players need to hit in practice to learn better concepts of hitting and to know how game-like scenarios would be. If in a game you run the ball no one will stop and touch you tell and say you’re down, they will hit you! I’m a football player for Whitney High and we hit 3-4 times a week not including games. With the amount of the hitting we did, it improved everyone’s’ hitting skills.

I can see how reducing the hitting in practice will cause less injuries, but it will make the team weak in hitting.  With the risks of concussions in hitting during practices and in the games, doesn’t mean you have to hit every day of the week. Some of the members of the Ivy League eliminated the full contact of football for practices which reduced amount of concussions. By the time an Ivy league school plays a top competitor they won’t stand a chance since one team is hitting and the other is just running plays every day. If any team just hits at least three  times a week they will be fine and it could reduce the chance of a concussion.

I don’t see why the Ivy league is doing this, with other college league like Pac 12, Big 10, etc, they hit three times a week. Not saying that any league is bad I’m saying that whoever learns to hit properly in the league their playing in about 3 times a week they will be know how it will be like in games.

The chances for a concussion or any other injury may will go since they won’t be hitting. Stats show that hitting all the time could lead to a concussion at the end of the season because your brain keeps getting banged up. Safety is sometimes more important than winning, but with a team not hitting at all during practice, they will not be prepared.

With the Ivy league going to full contact 2 times a week, I would say you would need to hit 3 or more to know how games are played so your team is prepared to play and hit.
