Multiple DC characters have been coming to life from a simple comic book to your own television such as The Arrow and Constantine. But a new hero is coming to your screen, and he’s the fastest man alive: “The Flash.”

The Flash is an all-new science fiction television series on The CW that airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. There have been only been five episodes in the series, each about 43 minutes long.

In the comic universe, The Flash has been portrayed by many personas, but this show is based around one of my favorites, the second flash, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). Barry Allen’s charismatic, awkward, caring and shy personality makes him different compared to the other versions of The Flash.

Barry Allen was first introduced in a spin-off episode of The Arrow, which I thought was pretty smart because both heroes are also good friends based on the comic books.  He was illustrated as an assistant police forensic investigator who was shown late to the crime that he believed was connected to his mother’s murder when he was 11 years old. During the end of the episode, he is seen in his lab during a storm where he is struck by a bolt of lightning and crashed into a shelf of chemicals.

I was really excited to see the first episode, because after watching Grant Gustin portray The Flash on “The Arrow,” I had high hopes for this series. Gustin did an amazing job portraying Allen, displaying his awkward yet smart personality.

The first episode of “The Flash” aired on Oct. 7, 2014, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. We first hear Allen’s voice as he explains how his mother was killed and his father was blamed for her murder and sent to jail. Barry Allen’s background story adds a bit of suspense, and you wonder who murdered his mother.

As I watched the last few minutes, I was definitely pleased. Although this was the very first episode in the series, it foreshadowed events in the coming episodes, but did not give away anything major that may happen this season. We will definitely be seeing some of The Flash’s rivals from several comic books, and characters from “The Arrow”. But what I was really excited for was the drama that may happen between him and his best friend who so happens to be his love interest, Iris West (Candice Patton).

I am definitely looking forward to the first series of “The Flash.”What I like is that you do not have to watch the spin-off in The Arrow to know what Barry Allen is like and who he is. If you are into super heroes or a DC comics fanatic, then I highly recommend watching this show.
