It’s the morning, the sun rises, and everyone rises along with it. Some people eat breakfast, some work out and some sleep in. It’s like second nature. As soon as people wake up, they have to follow some sort of ritual, an event that feels almost unavoidable. Although there are multiple ways to start the morning, engaging in specific habits can enhance a person’s day and overall well-being.
For me, doing pushups or pull-ups after waking up helps me focus better in the morning. It’s an easy way to stimulate my muscles and boost energy levels throughout the day. I feel more in tune with my work and more productive if I exercise beforehand. Exercise releases endorphins, which elevate mood and may enhance memory. That natural chemical boost contributes to the heightened focus and productivity I experience.
Another vital part of a morning routine is nutrition, so eating a good breakfast before the day begins is important to me. It replenishes glucose stores and provides essential nutrients that fuel the body. This contributes to energy, alertness and concentration, ensuring you stay focused without worrying about hunger. Personally, I’ve found that eggs and bread make for an accessible, nutrient-dense breakfast that keeps me going. But it doesn’t have to be only those specific food items; any good protein and carbohydrate source, like sausage or cereal, can work.
Whether we like it or not, social media plays a role in shaping how we view and approach routines. TikTok influencers, like Ashton Hall, have gained attention for their unconventional approaches. His routine includes waking up at 4 a.m., putting his face in a bowl of ice water, and rubbing a banana peel on his skin. While these steps may seem bizarre, they do surprisingly have some benefits. For example, ice water reduces facial puffiness and banana peels are considered by some to help clear skin. After seeing these types of videos, I adopted a more rational approach, by waking up at 6 or 7 a.m. and taking a cold shower which offers the same benefits without doing something extreme.
I understand that not everyone can commit to a structured morning routine. People wake up late, or simply just have more important matters at hand. But considering the mental and physical benefits, boosted energy, sharper focus, and an improved mood, the value of a routine becomes clear. It’s an option available to everyone and should be used to its fullest extent. A routine doesn’t just help you get through the day, it can help you improve yourself.
