When I opened to the first page of the book, I realized immediately that I wouldn’t  be doing much more than reading for the next couple of days. From the very beginning “The City of Bones” will have you pulled in. The first chapter consists of a murder by a mysterious group of teenage kids that no one seems to be able to see.

“The City of Bones,” by Cassandra Clare, has now been made into movie which will be released into theaters August 23, 2013. The book originally came out March 27, 2007 made for young adults and a fairly easy read with a page count of 485.

The book is the first in the series, The Mortal Instruments. It is a series of six but also has a spin off The Infernal Devices a series of five books starting with the first, “Clockwork Angel.”

These books appeal to both genders with the non-stop action, mysterious twists, and the romance between the two main characters, Clary Fray and the shadowhunter Jace Wayland, when Clary gets pulled into the Shadowhunter world.

16 year old Clary finds out that the myths about demons, vampires, werewolves, demon hunters (Shadowhunters), etc. are not myths at all and are very real. Shadowhunters, who are part angel and part human, take interest in this weird mortal girl who knows nothing about their world but seems to be able to see right threw their glamore.
The farther I got into the series I started to find myself being able understand, relate, and feel for these characters. You’ll fall in love with Jace with his cocky and somewhat aggressive attitude, Simon and his adorable nerdiness, Clary with her humble self, Isabel with her sophisticated personality, and Alec and his superior attitude. The farther I got into the book I started to find myself relating to the last person I would think I would be relatable too.

Clare first got the idea for the Mortal Instrument series when she and her friends went to a tattoo shop. She saw series of tattoos that gave her the idea of a secret  society of demon hunters whose magic comes from a system of tattooed runes. Clare wanted to combine traditional fantasy, modern, and urban fantasies.

Growing up Clare and her family spent most of their time traveling the world. While traveling Clare discovered her love for books and began write some of her own to amuse her family and friends. When she was done with college she lived in both Los Angeles and Manhattan, New York, where the story is based, writing for many different entertainment magazines. Clare started working on her first novel “The City of Bones” in 2004.  You can learn more about Clare at her website  http://www.cassandraclare.com/.

If you like this series here is a few more that you might also find yourself  enjoying; Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series, the Maze Runner series by James Dashner’s and the very well known “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. Each series will have you hooked and wanting for more.
