Theater cast begin tech rehearsals for the upcoming fall play
The fall play, “You Can’t Take it With You” premieres Nov. 13th and the cast is starting to feel the pressure. Last week the cast and tech crew started dress rehearsals and will continue to rehearse for the next week.
“Tech rehearsals are very stressful. Ask any actor it’s hell, we call it ‘hell week.’ In most rehearsals we just run the scenes but for tech [rehearsals] we add lights, costumes, microphones, and you can’t call lines, you have to be fully memorized,” Jonah Petty said. Petty plays the role of Grandpa Sycamore.
Phrases commonly heard during tech rehearsals are “line?” and an assortment of profanities, all products of the lack of knowing what to do or say.
“You have microphones and there is a lot of stop-and-go because there is first time tech crew and that also adds stress to not being able to ask for your line,” Brenna Gittins said. Gittins plays the character Olga Katrina.
It’s not uncommon to have loud, screeching sounds coming from the speakers at any given moment and shouting from the tech crew across the theatre about microphone placement.
“[When looking for tech crew] I ask kids who are interested in the technical aspects of the play and I interview them and ask about their experience,” Mrs. Julie Hilliker said.
“We’ve had two rehearsals with just tech crew and two with both casts but they enjoy it alot.” Hilliker said.
The Sycamore cast has opening night showing and will alternate showing nights between the Kirby cast. The general public can buy tickets for, $10, students and senior citizens can purchase tickets for $7 and children under six for $5. The showings for the Sycamore cast are Thursday Nov 13th at 7:00 p.m, Saturday Nov. 15th at 2:00 p.m and Friday Nov. 21st at 7;00 p.m. The Kirby Cast showings are Friday Nov. 14th at 7:00p.m, Thursday Nov. 20th at 7:00 p.m, and Saturday Nov. 22nd at 2:00 p.m

![On the stage, Daniel Bozinovski and Rachel Treto play their part as Tom and Hannah in the show “The Cast List”. The show was about a group of students who were told about their cast list for the play “Romeo and Juliet.” The Theater I students were in preparation for their first showcase of the year. Students went over their lines during all of their class for the past two months. “[We put in] a lot of rehearsal, practicing lines, making sure you have everything memorized and making sure you are ready to go in and not forget anything,” Nathan Weeks said.
