With the aftermath of last year’s season and the hiring of a new head coach, the community saw a new team perform for the first time at the annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage.

This exhibition combined the varsity, junior varsity, and freshman football teams into two teams: maroon and gold. These two teams then played against each other on Aug. 14 in front of students, parents, and friends.

New Head Coach Paul Doherty made his debut for the team.

“Everything is in place for this program to be good,” Doherty said.

The starting quarterback, Hunter Rodrigues, threw four touchdowns in the first half. The gold team’s new senior transfer from Oakmont High School, Joshua Daniels threw for a touchdown and Max Brooke ran for the touchdown in the first half. The score at halftime was 26-14 Maroon.

In the second half, the maroon team continued to dominate even with their second string line up consisting of sophomores and juniors. The gold team struggled to produce points to achieve the victory.

The scrimmage had a final score of 50-33 Maroon.

After the game, players had leftover snack bar food and celebrated the game while coaches talked about the overall performance.

“We got a lot of plays in and got it on film so it is good for us to evaluate for tomorrow in film and try to get better from there,” Doherty said.

“The game went great, we adapted to the system and everyone executed. We did awesome,” Jason Sanchez said.

The football team hopes to have a better season than last year and prepare for the future.

“People are doubting us but we are going to prove them wrong,” Justin Kraft said.

The team plays their first home game on Sept. 4 against Enterprise High School. The game starts at 7:30 PM.
