Imagine being stranded in a cabin with four other people, with abnormal activities going on in the basement and not being able to leave because of a flash flood.

In a 91 minute rated-R horror film “The Evil Dead”, the five main characters face the same horrific situation. The worst part is that Mia (Jane Levy) is struggling to overcome her drug addiction, having withdrawals like crazy for a big part of the film.

At the beginning, there is a flashback to how the cabin in the woods first became haunted, setting the scene for the rest of the movie. It started out confusing with a man hunting down his own daughter in the forest, because she had been possessed by a demon.

Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci), a friend of Mia’s, finds a big mysterious book. He makes the mistake of reading the book, therefore summoning the same evil creature that was imprisoned within the girl in the basement. This creature becomes a huge problem as it preys upon these four unsuspecting people.

I was surprised over and over again at how graphic the scenes were. If I could describe this movie in one word it would be creepy. But I guess that’s a good thing, considering that is usually the intention of a horror film.

The movie had a lot of pop-outs that never failed to make me jump out of my seat in every scene. Another bonus for this movie was that it was strictly a horror film, not a porno-horror. There won’t be anyone having sex before they are brutally murdered.

With witches, chainsaws, blood and gore it is probably not the best idea to buy an extra large popcorn before watching this film. It meets all of the expectations of a horror film, and I would definitely recommend it to someone with a strong stomach.
