“Battlefield” has and always will be known for its massive multiplayer battles and epic stories, and it really brings you to the edge of your seat desiring to play more. The term “Only in Battlefield” has been demonstrated over the years with DICE’s take on realistic graphics and incredible online modern warfare gameplay. However they decided to bring a whole new take on warfare.

“Battlefield 1” is a fps multiplayer online game set in the time of the Great War (World War 1). The lead game designer, Daniel Berlin, and his team wanted to completely change the pattern of their  recent previous creations: “Battlefield 2, Battlefield Bad Company, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4.” All of these were all based on modern warfare set in a fiction world war.

Their entire plan was to completely scrap all of their usually plans for a modern day battlefield and start fresh with all out war with a taste of the Great War. And that they did.

The gameplay is just well created, and probably one of the most realistic looking games out there. DICE used the same technique from their previous game: “Star Wars Battlefront” by using photogrammetry. This allowed them to create a more detailed game with high resolution textures and astounding realism. The game also surprisingly doesn’t much power on consoles and PC’s, and runs quite smoothly with a average high frame rate. One major thing that “Battlefield 1” seem to lack overall was in fact the game content. From maps to the variety and amount of guns in the game, it really made it feel like a game not really worth $60. Instead of the normal 12 map rotation for any other base “Battlefield” game, they pushed it down to an 8 map rotation which really did have major effects on how fresh the game was every time it was played. The guns in the game were also a bit disappointing. The authenticity was superb and detailed, however the customization in the game was limited. Rather than having a variety of attachments and aesthetics for the guns, they went for three variations of one gun with a different scope or sight. This really changed how the overall feeling of Battlefield was and hopefully they go back to their normal state for the next game.

Even with some lack of content, the game is really worth the buy for anybody wanting an epic World War 1 multiplayer experience. The maps are very immersive and the weather and lighting on each one is unique in it’s own way. The vehicles in the game also add to the intensity of the game while balancing it with a realistic introduction of industrial warfare. The graphics and sounds are truly amazing and it truly is an experience most people have never experience in gaming. Multiplayer wise, “Battlefield 1” really is an entertaining experience always bringing you to the edge of the seat to want to play again.
