First league game of the season for girls’ varsity soccer ends in defeat, 2-1
The first league girls’ varsity soccer match on Mar. 4 against Bella Vista ended in defeat for Whitney, 2-1.
The first and only goal scored in the first half of the game was by Whitney’s Alyssa Rapisura.
“I felt that we could have won if we maintained how we played in the first half. During the second half we started getting tired and lost motivation,” said midfielder Toby Martinez.
Seven minutes into the second half, Bella Vista’s Chelsea Allen head-butted the ball into the goal tying the game 1-1.
Bella Vista almost scores again as Whitney’s goal is wide open, but
defender Shailyn Valenzano manages to intercept and send the ball across the field.
Goalkeeper Jordan Higgins manages to keep the score tied as she prevents another attempted shot by Bella Vista with 28 minutes left in the second half.
Bella Vista’s Meghan O’Neil takes a shot and scores, increasing the score 2-1. Not long after O’Neil got carried off field due to an unknown injury.
The girls varsity team next match is Mar. 23 on the Cosumnes Oaks’ field.

![On the stage, Daniel Bozinovski and Rachel Treto play their part as Tom and Hannah in the show “The Cast List”. The show was about a group of students who were told about their cast list for the play “Romeo and Juliet.” The Theater I students were in preparation for their first showcase of the year. Students went over their lines during all of their class for the past two months. “[We put in] a lot of rehearsal, practicing lines, making sure you have everything memorized and making sure you are ready to go in and not forget anything,” Nathan Weeks said.
